CHICAGO –The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recently honored U.S. Rep. Alma Adams (N.C.) with its 2019 Public Policy Leadership Award for her work in food and nutrition policy.
“The Academy is proud to honor Rep. Adams because of her strong commitment and supportive stance on clinical nutrition issues, global health, nutrition education programs and community nutrition,” said registered dietitian nutritionist and Academy President Terri J. Raymond.
The North Carolina Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics nominated Adams for the award.
“All Academy members appreciate Representative Adams’ support on critical nutrition issues, including diabetes and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, as well as her willingness to involve residents of her home state to weigh in and assist her office in shaping the future of health policy,” Raymond said.
In 2015, Adams launched the Adams Hunger Initiative, which addresses food insecurity and hunger in North Carolina’s 12th District by “bringing together stakeholders, promoting investments into local communities through public and private partnerships, drafting bipartisan legislation and supporting critical food programs.” In addition, Adams is committed to investing in the SNAP Employment and Training Program.
