CHICAGO –The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recently honored U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie (Ky.) with its 2019 Public Policy Leadership Award for his work to improve health through nutrition policy.
“The Academy honors Rep. Guthrie for his continued leadership in supporting the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act over the past four Congresses,” said registered dietitian nutritionist and Academy President Terri J. Raymond.
“All Academy members applaud Rep. Guthrie’s vision of prevention as an avenue for providing access to health providers who can improve outcomes and reduce future costs to the health care system.”
Guthrie supported legislation during the 115th Congress that ensured Medicare services for disabled beneficiaries remained after a funding lapse. Guthrie is working on ways to reduce drug costs and treatment options for cancer and diabetes.
“Rep. Guthrie maintains a strong understanding of the work that registered dietitian nutritionists and nutrition and dietetic technicians, registered and other nutrition professionals carry out, especially as it relates to the importance of nutrition in his district and across the country,” Raymond said.
