CHICAGO – To highlight the role everyone plays in ensuring a healthy future for children, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and its Foundation will celebrate the third annual Kids Eat Right Month™ in August.
Created in 2014, Kids Eat Right Month mobilizes registered dietitian nutritionists in a grassroots movement, spreading healthful eating messages far and wide.
An initiative of the Foundation's Kids Eat Right program, Kids Eat Right Month focuses on the importance of healthful eating and active lifestyles for children and families, featuring expert advice from registered dietitian nutritionists to help families achieve the Kids Eat Right core principles: "shop smart, cook healthy and eat right." These core principles along with family meals will improve the health of children, who may be at risk of having a shorter life span than their parents.
Kids Eat Right offers resources including articles, infographics, videos and recipes to encourage nutritious, healthful eating among children and families. Kids Eat Right supports efforts of the White House to end the childhood obesity epidemic within a generation.
"Childhood obesity affects one in six children and adolescents in the United States," says registered dietitian nutritionist and Academy President Lucille Beseler. "During Kids Eat Right Month and all year long, we need to encourage kids to eat healthfully and move more to reduce health risks associated with obesity, which include elevated risks of high cholesterol, high blood pressure, bone and joint problems, Type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea."
"The Academy and our Foundation are committed to helping all kids eat right because raising the next generation of healthy children starts today," Beseler says. "Kids Eat Right Month highlights the role that everyone, from families and communities to health care professionals and policy makers, can take to improve children's health."
The Kids Eat Right Month media kit is available now and includes the 2016 Kids Eat Right Month graphic, infographics, syndicated content, social media resources and much more. To schedule an interview or segment with a children's nutrition expert, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
