Mary Russell

Russell is a medical science liaison II, U.S. Nutrition Medical Affairs, at Baxter Healthcare and a lecturer at the Rosalind Franklin School of Medicine and Science. Previously, she was director of clinical nutrition at the University of Chicago and Duke University, and held positions on the Duke nutrition support team and as an ICU/surgery dietitian clinician. Russell served as the Academy's President in 2018-2019.

A past member of the Academy's House of Delegates and of numerous Academy committees, Russell served on the Academy's Board of Directors as treasurer-elect, treasurer and immediate past treasurer and was also a member of the Academy Foundation's Board. She is past chair of the Dietitians in Nutrition Support dietetic practice group and past president of the North Carolina Dietetic Association. Russell was named the 2018 Outstanding Dietitian by the Illinois Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

She is the author or co-author of numerous papers in the area of nutrition support. She co-wrote chapters in the Academy's Pocket Guide to Nutrition Assessment (3rd ed.) and in the Academy's Pocket Guide to Parenteral Nutrition (2nd ed.). Russell contributed chapters to two recent books: Advanced Nutrition and Dietetics in Nutrition Support (John Wiley and Sons, 2018) and Krause's Food & the Nutrition Care Process (Elsevier, 2017). Russell is a graduate of Marquette University and earned a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
