Stokes is director of global health and nutrition outreach at Bayer Crop Science. Previously he worked at Monsanto Company; was an assistant professor and director of the dietetic internship at the University of St. Joseph; and was a clinical nutrition manager at health care facilities in New York City.
Stokes is a past member of the Academy's Finance and Audit Committee and the Coding and Coverage Committee, serving as the Academy's liaison to the American Medical Association. He served in the Academy's House of Delegates representing Connecticut and as an Academy media spokesperson in the New York City market.
Stokes was the New York State Dietetic Association's 2005 Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year and received the Connecticut Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' 2014 President's Award. As a writer and health communicator, Stokes co-authored the Academy's book Launching Your Career in Nutrition and Dietetics: How to Thrive in the Classroom, the Internship and Your First Job (2nd ed., 2016).
He graduated from Murray State University and earned a master's degree in public health from Hunter College – City University of New York and a doctorate in health communication and marketing from the University of Connecticut.
