About the Board of Directors

The Board of Directors oversees the strategic direction, budget, guidelines and policies of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. With the mission and vision leading the Academy in all facets of governance and policy, the Board provides access to the strategic plan and Academy policies that guide members and the profession as a whole.

Comprised of national leaders in nutrition and health, the Board has 19 members and governs the organization.

To govern the organization, the Academy Board of Directors:

  • Oversees fiscal planning.

  • Establishes guidelines and policies for appeals, publications, awards and honors.

  • Donna S. Martin, EdS, RDN, LD, SNS, FAND

    Martin is director of the Burke County school nutrition program, which has 4,500 students in five schools, serving breakfast and lunch, after-school snacks and supper.

  • Mary K. Russell, MS, RDN, LDN, FAND

    Russell is senior manager, U.S. nutrition medical affairs, at Baxter Healthcare and a lecturer at the Rosalind Franklin School of Medicine and Science.

  • Lucille Beseler, MS, RDN, LDN, CDE, FAND

    Beseler is president and owner of the Family Nutrition Center of South Florida. A past president of the Florida affiliate, Beseler received its Outstanding Dietitian of the Year Award.

  • Jo Jo Dantone-DeBarbieris, MS, RDN, LDN, CDE, FAND

    Dantone-DeBarbieris is the president, chief executive officer and owner of Nutrition Education Resources, Inc., providing registered dietitian nutritionists’ services since 1977 to hospitals and medical centers.

  • Margaret P. Garner, MS, RDN, LD, CIC, FAND

    Garner is an associate professor of family medicine at the University of Alabama and the executive director of the student health center, where she also serves as the director of the Department of Health Promotion and Wellness.

  • Dianne Polly, JD, RDN, LDN, FAND

    Polly is the executive director of the Shelby County, Tenn., Education Foundation. Previously, she was vice president for compliance and community relations and the Meals on Wheels director at the Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association.

  • Linda T. Farr, RDN, LD, FAND

    Farr is the owner of Nutrition Associates of San Antonio, providing personalized medical nutrition therapy to teens and adults, media interviews, nutrition facts labeling, and public speaking.

  • Hope Barkoukis, PhD, RDN, LD

    Barkoukis is the interim chair and an associate professor in the nutrition department at Case Western Reserve University’s School of Medicine.

  • Michele Delille Lites, RDN, CSO

    A registered dietitian nutritionist who has worked in community, nonprofit, corrections, education, and consulting, Lites is a certified specialist in oncology at Kaiser Permanente's Comprehensive Cancer Center.

  • Kevin L. Sauer, PhD, RDN, LD

    Sauer is an associate professor in the department of food, nutrition, dietetics and health at Kansas State University and co-principal researcher with the Center of Excellence for Food Safety Research in Child Nutrition Programs.

  • Susan Brantley, MS, RDN, LDN, CNSD

    Brantley is an adjunct faculty member in the dietetics program at Carson Newman University and an instructor in the physician’s assistant program at South College.

  • Tamara Randall, MS, RDN, LD, CDE, FAND

    Randall is an instructor and director of the master of science in public health nutrition dietetic internship in the department of nutrition at Case Western Reserve University.

    Yadrick is director of nutrition informatics for Computrition, Inc., a Los Angeles-based provider of software solutions to the nutrition and foodservice industry.

  • Kevin Concannon, MSW

    Concannon served as Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Sciences at the U.S. Department of Agriculture from 2009 until 2017.

  • Steven Miranda, SPHR, GPHR, SHRM-SCP

    Miranda is the deputy director of the management division at the Board of the Federal Reserve of the United States, where he is responsible for human resource and internal technical services functions.

  • Patricia M. Babjak, GSLIS

    Babjak joined the Academy in 1975 and became director of the Commission on Dietetic Registration in 1978, serving until 1998 when she became executive vice president for Strategic Management and Governance.
