Academy National Sponsor
Collaboration with the Academy
National Dairy Council® has a long history of collaborating with the Academy to forward the Academy's mission of empowering members to be the food and nutrition leaders.
As a top level sponsor in the Academy's Corporate Sponsorship program since 2007, National Dairy Council has provided a variety of science-based nutrition resources and research for members, participated in the Academy's events and programs and supported the Foundation.
Highlights of Collaboration through the Academy's Sponsorship Program
- 3-Every-Day™ of Dairy Campaign
Since 2003, the National Dairy Council® and the Academy, along with other leading health care organizations, have teamed up to educate the public about the recommended three daily servings of dairy and the nutrition and health benefits of dairy foods (i.e., fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products, including lactose-free dairy milk, cheese and yogurt). Valuable educational resources, hosted on the Academy website, are useful to help RDNs counsel their clients about the important role of dairy foods in the diet in accordance with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
- Resources for Academy Members
National Dairy Council has a wealth of science-based nutrition research and resources on the health benefits of dairy foods, including dairy-based solutions for lactose intolerance, dairy's nutrient contributions to the U.S. diet (NHANES data), dairy's role in disease reduction (Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and lowering blood pressure among adults), childhood and school nutrition, which includes the in-school nutrition and physical activity program Fuel Up to Play 60. Archives of webinars for RDNs on topics of child nutrition and lactose intolerance, as well as materials on a variety of topics, are available for downloading and distribution for educational purposes.

- Future of Food Partnership
In 2012, National Dairy Council, Feeding America and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation joined forces to create the Future of Food partnership, a nationwide initiative to help families obtain adequate amounts of healthful food and reduce levels of food insecurity in the United States. The Foundation has awarded $26,000 and 130 mini-grants for Kids Eat Right members to lead two presentations from the new Hunger in Our Community: What We Can Do toolkit, and provided a series of eight hunger webinars to better prepare Academy members for their work with food insecure populations. The Foundation assisted with the development and October 2013 launch of the Healthy Food Bank Hub — a website with valuable tools and resources for professionals working with food insecure populations — and was instrumental in vetting 100 nutrition education handouts for consideration on the Hub along with the development of new educational handouts.
- Support of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation
National Dairy Council is committed to improving childhood nutrition and they have provided generous funding to the Foundation through many events and programs including Kids Eat Right initiatives. National Dairy Council funded the development and launch of this important initiative in 2010, supported grants for Kids Eat Right volunteers to work in Fuel Up to Play 60 schools, was a supporter of the Shop.Cook.Eat Summit held in 2011 and contributed to the Kids Eat Right School Nutrition webinar.
National Dairy Council Values its Relationship with the Academy
"National Dairy Council is pleased to support the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as an Academy Sponsor and is passionate about continuing our shared historic commitment to nutrition education. We value our work together to help Americans consume more nutrient rich foods, including three daily servings of low-fat and fat-free dairy foods. We continue to look for synergies and opportunities to work closely with RDNs to promote healthier lifestyles for children and provide access to healthy foods for the food insecure." — Jean Ragalie-Carr, RDN, President, National Dairy Council
RDNs at National Dairy Council
RDNs play a valuable role throughout National Dairy Council — nationally and locally. With about 80 RDNs on staff throughout the country, National Dairy Council provides opportunities for RDNs to lead change and direct actions to improve the health and well-being of Americans. National Dairy Council also encourages RDNs to be involved in planning, development and implementation of educational programs that will impact health and wellness professionals, including RDNs. Many National Dairy Council RDNs hold leadership roles in national, state and local affiliates of the Academy and have for many decades.
