The health care landscape is changing rapidly to include new models of health care delivery and payment. For years, health care providers performed certain procedures and received payment just for doing the work. While some of this type of compensation will continue, there is widespread experimentation and subsequent adoption of payment models that carefully consider the most important elements of care for specific health conditions and procedures, anticipate expected health outcomes, while assigning value to of all of the health care services involved. RDNs are in a unique position to demonstrate value, cost-effectiveness and positive health outcomes, as well as improve population health. The Academy is actively working to promote the integration of the RDNs into new models of health care delivery and payment. This section contains information and resources to help dietetics professionals understand trends in health care delivery and payment, as well as take action to expand access to RDNs and their services now and in the future.
