The Academy's Board of Directors gathered between June 3-6, 2008, at a board retreat in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The board activated the new Strategic Plan and began deliberating on branding the uniqueness of the Registered Dietitian.

In order to progress and meet the needs of the changing field of nutrition, the organization made a decision to add academy to the name.
