USDA Releases Results of Food and Agriculture Research

11/17/2016 - A new article from the Department of Agriculture highlights the impact of food and agriculture research on the economy over the previous eight years.

The article is the next chapter in the USDA Results, a "progressive, year-long, multimedia storytelling effort showcasing the USDA's work on behalf of those living, working and raising families in rural America."

This latest chapter, "Food and Ag Science Will Shape Our Future," notes that studies have shown that every dollar invested in agricultural research now returns over $20 to the economy, and the USDA has invested $19 billion in intramural and extramural research.

Additionally, research conducted by USDA scientists has resulted in 883 patent applications filed, 405 patents issued and 1,151 new inventions disclosures covering a wide range of topics and discoveries since 2009.

The Academy continues to for food and agriculture research at major universities and land grant institutions by supporting the upcoming Farm Bill.
