Academy Asks CMS to Consider Needs of RDNs in Medicare Quality Payment Program Year 2

01/09/2018 - As part of its ongoing efforts to ensure fairness, equity, appropriate recognition, inclusion and payment to registered dietitian nutritionists under Medicare Part B, the Academy submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services regarding CMS's final rule with comment period for updates to the 2018 Medicare Quality Payment Program Year 2.

The Academy’s comments targeted the significant increase in the Low-Volume Threshold beginning in 2018, Virtual Groups and the concept of an option to opt-in to the Merit-based Incentive Payment System.

These comments represent a second year of advocacy for the expanded role in this new and evolving Medicare payment system. The Academy continues to urge CMS to consider the needs of non-physician providers, such as RDNs, and to provide the same opportunities to earn value based payments as physicians and other Medicare providers, given RDNs’ contribution to better care, smarter spending and healthier people.
