Academy's 2016 Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo in Boston Features Timely Agenda to Champion Healthy Lifestyles

CHICAGO - The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics will bring the 2016 Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo to Boston, Mass., October 15 to 18, to address timely nutrition topics ranging from simplified food labels to addressing malnutrition in hospital patients.

More than 10,000 registered dietitian nutritionists, nutrition science researchers, policy makers, health care providers and industry leaders from around the world are expected at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center for four days of learning, debating and networking, all in the interest of improving nutritional health nationally and globally.

"Nutrition and all its related issues are at the center of our public conversation," said registered dietitian nutritionist and Academy President Lucille Beseler. During the conference, Beseler and other presenters will introduce the Academy's Malnutrition Quality Improvement Initiative, which focuses on registered dietitian nutritionists who work with hospitalized adult patients.

Highlights of the Academy's 2016 Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo include:

  • Saturday, October 15 (4 p.m. - 6 p.m.): Opening Session, Hall B2. Academy President Lucille Beseler, MS, RDN, LDN, CDE, FAND, will speak on the Academy's priorities, initiatives and future outlook. Keynote speaker Barbara Corcoran, one of the "Sharks" on ABC's hit TV show Shark Tank, will present "Take Risks to Succeed – Leading Your Team to Greatness," inspiring attendees to establish an atmosphere that breeds innovation and success.
  • Sunday, October 16 (8 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.): Leading Malnutrition Quality Improvement for Better Hospital & Patient Outcomes, Room 205 ABC. Participants will learn how, why and when to use the Academy's first electronic clinical quality measures (eCQMs). Session faculty will describe the process and results of the Malnutrition Quality Improvement Initiative, a national multidisciplinary effort to address malnutrition, and help registered dietitian nutritionists lead malnutrition quality improvement in their hospitals and track patient outcomes.
  • Sunday, October 16 – Tuesday, October 18: Expo -Hall. (9 a.m. -3 p.m. Sunday and Monday; 9 a.m. -1 p.m. Tuesday). Meet face-to-face with 330+ exhibitors to get updates on the latest technologies; discover new and innovative products and services; and uncover emerging trends in the nutrition industry. This year's Expo floor includes 6 Expo Pavilions: Natural & Organic, Fresh Zone, Healthy Gut, Wellness & Prevention, Technology for Practice and Academy Pavilions.
  • Tuesday, October 18: Closing Session (2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.): Academy President-elect Donna S. Martin, EdS, RDN, LD, SNS, FAND, will close FNCE® 2016. Keynote speaker Porter Gale, former vice president of marketing at Virgin America, world-renowned branding leader and award-winning author, will share how and why building a network improves happiness, productivity and return during "Your Network Is Your Net Worth."
