Module 1 - Transformational Governance: Enhancing the Organization's Ability to Succeed

Brought to you by the Center for Professional Development with a special thank you to the content writer and presenter, Mark Levin, CAE.

In this module we will discuss the techniques and concepts that can be implemented to help move an organization from one that is merely carrying out a series of programs and directives to one that is actually transforming itself to better serve the profession and the organization's members, customers and stakeholders. This transformation begins with a fundamental change in the organization’s governance, in terms of both philosophy and structure.

We will be discussing a number of areas in the leadership field, including various definitions of leadership, where leadership manifests itself in the personal and professional life of most people, how to acquire and use good leadership skills, and how to make the practice of leadership a means for improving the profession through effective change management.

Module 3 - Leadership: An Appreciative Approach

Brought to you by the Center for Professional Development with a special thank you to the content writer and presenter, Marilyn Ferguson-Wolf, MA, RD, CSG, CD.

In this module, we are going to take leadership to the next level, the level of being an appreciative leader. A leader who looks for the best in the people and in situations, builds on strengths, is collaborative, wants everyone to succeed, builds on the past positive actions and engages the right people in the right actions. This person is a person that leads with integrity, knows who they are as a leader and who asks questions that gives life and hope to the future. To be an Appreciative Leader is a choice, to make the switch to approach all of life from the positive perspective is a choice, one that may be quick to adopt or may take many years. From my own experience it is well worth the effort.

Module 4 - Talking about Talking: Communicating as a Leader

Brought to you by the Center for Professional Development with a special thank you to the content writer and presenter, Marilyn Ferguson-Wolf, MA, RD, CSG, CD.

What are the skills needed to be an effective communicator? We will identify different skills and you will identify some skills you already possess. We will go through some different techniques of communication that are applicable any place and situation. When you leave you will have these tools available to you. A big part of being a leader is conducting or attending meetings. Meeting management is part of communication because the manner in which you conduct a meeting talks to your style and to your commitment to effective leadership. Following the theme of Appreciative Leadership, we want the meetings to be participatory. What is true in communication, knowing the purpose, and identifying the desired outcome is the same in meeting management.
